Dell Ships Precision Workstation 340 (September 19, 2001) Dell announced the Dell Precision Workstation 340 featuring Intel Pentium 4 processors with speeds up to 2GHz and a choice of ATI rage 128, Radeon VE, or NVIDIA's Quadro2 EX graphics cards.

Dell designed the Precision Workstation 340 to appeal to customers looking for high performance at an entry-level price, and for users working in cramped environments where space is an issue. Features include:

  • Workstation Application-Focused Performance: It offers a
single Intel Pentium 4 processor at speeds of up to 2.0 GHz utilizing the Intel 850 chipset with a 400 MHz system bus, and supports dual-channel RDRAM memory for ultimate
    workstation-class performance.

  • Industry-Leading Graphics: New graphic cards available for the Dell Precision 340 are: the ATI Rage 128, a card for general
office needs; the ATI Radeon VE with dual capability for either analog VGA or digital flat-panel DVI outputs; and NVIDIA's Quadro2 EX graphics card which provides real-time per-pixel lighting.

  • Choice of Two Small, Rack-Mountable Chassis: The Dell
Precision 340 offers tool-less and easy access to all internal
components. Customers can choose either a mini-tower chassis for expandability or a small desktop chassis, which is Dell's smallest workstation. Customers can purchase customized rack hits from Dell Software and Peripherals to mount the Precision 340 in industry-standard racks.

  • Choice of Operating Systems: The 340 can be ordered with
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and is Windows XP
Professional Ready. The 340 is also certified with Red Hat
Linux 7.1 and is available in select configurations.

Dell Precision Workstation 340 pricing begins at $1,099 (monitor not included). A robust configuration includes a Dell Precision 340 minitower with a Pentium 4 processor at 2.0 GHz, 256MB PC 800 RDRAM, NVIDIA Quadro2 EX graphics card, 20 GB IDE hard disk drive, 48X-maximum CD ROM drive, three-years onsite next-business-day service, Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and a Dell 17-inch flat panel monitor for $2,818.
