Adobe Systems Acrobat 9 Pro Extended Support for embedded Flash videos, new PDF Portfolio feature added By John Virata

Adobe Systems' Acrobat 9 Pro Extended is the company's flagship Acrobat document, and the company has added several new tools to enhance the user experience as well as some enhancements to existing tools. Within the scope of this first look, we'll cover some of the new tools introduced with this version. With version 9 Pro Extended, Acrobat delves into the world of multimedia, enabling you to embed Flash videos into PDF documents to further enrich the visual experience.

AS PDF documents become more multimedia rich, Adobe has continued to support the latest formats to ensure the widest visual experience. With Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, the company has added the capability to convert video files to Flash files directly within the application.

You won't have to get your QuickTime MOV or Windows WMV files converted to Flash using another application, as conversion tools are built right into Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. When you draw your video box in the area of your PDF that you want the video file to be located, a window pops up, enabling you to preview and trim your clip, set the poster image from the current frame, as well as a note detailing that the video will be converted to Flash format.

Acorbat 9 Pro extended enables you to embed Flash videos directly into PDF documents.

The advanced options tab enables you to select the video and audio quality that you want the file to output to, the playback controls you want to show, and the launch settings. There is also a link in the page detailing how to create legacy multimedia content for Acrobat Reader 5 or 6 users.

Dynamic Presentations via Adobe Presenter and Microsoft PowerPoint
Acrobat Pro Extended has been further enhanced with new features that enable you to create more dynamic presentations. No longer lulled to sleep by boring static views, you can now build presentations that will keep the viewers engaged. This is done via the Adobe Presenter PDF Presentation tool and Microsoft PowerPoint, the standard application for creating presentations. When you install Adobe Presenter, it will automatically install a ribbon in PowerPoint 2003 or 2007.

From the Adobe Presenter ribbon in PowerPoint (in this case, 2007), you can further enhance your presentations by adding important information to your PowerPoint Slides. The Adobe Presenter Ribbon includes several additions to PowerPoint such as a publish tool, Slide Manager, Settings, Record feature, import/sync/edit, capture tool, and the capability to insert SWF files directly into PowerPoint.

Publish

The Publish Presentation tab enables you to publish out your PowerPoint presentation to your computer as a SWF file, to the Web, to Adobe Connect Pro, and as a PDF file. There is a bit more to just the fact that you can publish to these formats. You can also tweak the makeup of the presentation's files. For example, if you've added audio or images to the presentation, you can specify that the audio be CD quality, near CD quality FM quality, or low bandwidth. The images can be published at as low, medium, or high quality. You can also change the look of the presentation by changing its themes.

These are essentially presentation templates, such as Club Orange, Arctic, Steel, and others. You can further customize the presentation in the Theme Editor as well by modifying the text labels, background images, the presenter info, the panes, and the fonts to get a custom look.
