Brickyard VFX Pacific Builds Busy Production Slate Bicoastal visual effects shops combine horsepower. (May 05, 2004)

Brickyard VFX, an artist-owned-and-operated visual effects company established in Boston in 1999, announced a busy commercial spot production roster for its Los Angeles studio, Brickyard VFX Pacific. The newly opened shop has handled projects recently for numerous accounts, including Snapple, Lays, Carl's Jr., Putnam Investments and Medicare. The bicoastal shops have put their combined horsepower to good use when tight deadline projects arrive. Brickyard VFX's team on the ground in Santa Monica includes: Visual Effects Artist and Brickyard VFX Pacific Co-Owner Patrick Poulatian, Visual Effects Producer Diana Young, Visual Effects Artist George Fitz and Brickyard VFX Pacific Co-Owner Steve Michaels.

"It's been busy at Brickyard VFX Pacific since before the paint was dry," Young said. "The Brickyard VFX artists based out of Santa Monica bring with them a long-standing client base. The team is lean, mean and totally dedicated; we have the wherewithal to put our full attention on a complete project or just a few shots, even on tight deadline. Because we are linked up with Brickyard VFX Atlantic in Boston, we have the flexibility to pool our resources, handing things off back and forth to get the job done on time, and with the best results. Our Boston artists and clients also now have a home base whenever a job calls for shooting or posting in L.A."

In addition to spots finished end to end in Santa Monica, several commercials completed by Brickyard VFX illustrate the resources and synergies shared between the company's East and West Coast locations. "Leaf," an ad for VW, was shot in L.A. with Boston Brickyard VFX artist Geoff McAuliffe on set. As McAuliffe returned East, he designated scenes that Brickyard VFX Pacific artists Poulatian and Fitz could begin compositing for the CG-intensive spot. Work was then tag-teamed between the two locations, with McAuliffe reviewing and approving files with VW and Arnold Worldwide out of New England.

For a recent Sprint job, Brickyard VFX's Dave Waller, based out of the Atlantic office, was able to make production more convenient for his San Francisco client, Publicis & Hal Riney, by booking himself in for a week at Brickyard VFX in L.A. It was only an hour down from the Bay Area to be able to work with the agency's artist of choice. Other work created jointly under Brickyard VFX's two roofs includes projects for Snapple and Apple.

Stated Waller: "All our artists at Brickyard VFX have a dedicated following, and now we're able to put ourselves wherever clients need us. In addition to bringing in plenty of work on its own, our Santa Monica shop allows more convenience and flexibility for our East Coast artists and accounts. So whether we're completing work in tandem or are working in the other's office, it all has our trademark high standards and zero attitude."

About Brickyard VFX
Located in Boston and Santa Monica, Brickyard VFX is an independent visual effects boutique specializing in digital finishing, effects and compositing. Completely artist owned and operated, the company was founded in 1999 to bring commercial clients a level of customer service, craftsmanship and focus difficult to find at facilities today. Brickyard's problem-solving expertise on set and in the studio has been applied to enhance, color correct, re-light, rotoscope, track and composite shots on high-profile campaigns for Atari, Puma, AT&T, Visa, Volkswagen and many other accounts. This has led to tight relationships with top directors and advertising agencies, who appreciate the company's industrial-strength work ethic as much as its welcoming decor.
