It's a jungle out there in political television advertising, what with parrots, chicks, dogs and pigs taking turns in commercials that bite and scratch in a way no nonpartisan pet ever would. A parrot squawked in a Club for Growth Action ad that ran earlier in the year in Arkansas, "You can keep it." It was meant to ridicule President Barack Obama and Sen. Mark Pryor's now-abandoned claims that state residents could keep their health insurance if they liked it.

Iraq's Nouri al-Maliki has given up his post as prime minister to Haider al-Abadi, state television reported Thursday — a move that could end a political deadlock that plunged Baghdad into uncertainty as the country fights a Sunni militant insurgency. The Iraqiya television network said al-Maliki has "relinquished the post of prime minister." It did not elaborate. That idea sat in his mind for years, and came to the surface in 2013 when he was working on his UCLA thesis film. Once through with college, the idea turned into a full length feature. But the idea wasn't a remake of Sleeping Beauty. What if boys could kill girls with a kiss. Certainly not the happy ending from the cartoon. But a gloomy, frightening look at the other side of the coin.
