TORONTO, Sept. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - After racing through four countries, six provinces, 17 cities, and over 50,000 kilometres, dating couple Sam and Paul have won Season 5 of CTV's THE AMAZING RACE CANADA. Following a nail-biting fight to the finish line in Québec City, Sam and Paul were the first team to meet host Jon Montgomery at the final Pit Stop at Le Parc-des-Ancêtres, taking home $250,000 in cash, a once in a lifetime trip for two around the world, and a Next Generation 2018 Chevrolet Equinox True North Edition for each of them. In this final leg, with everything on the line, Sam and Paul beat out fellow finalists Kenneth and Ryan and Korey and Ivana.
"This is the most amazing thing, we've met so many amazing people, and the fact that I got to do it with Paul, and that we're here. It's just been the most amazing experience of our lives, and we are so thankful, and so grateful," said Sam.
"This Race really has changed my life," added Paul, "Even six months ago I didn't want to tell people I was gay. I told my family and friends, but just being in front of all of these people, and being able to show that this is my boyfriend, the man I am in-love with? I feel liberated, it's the best feeling."

In last night's (Sept. 12) season finale of THE AMAZING RACE CANADA, the final three teams raced to Québec City, where a Roadblock had teams make their way to Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, a scenic 272-foot waterfall which flows into the St. Lawrence River. One Racer from each team had to climb over the edge of the bridge and scale down a cargo net directly above the rushing water of the falls to collect their clue. Once the Racer grabbed the clue, they had to climb back up the cargo net before they could continue. Paul was the first to complete the Roadblock, followed closely by Ryan, and then Korey, who struggled to make his way back up the cargo net.
Teams then made their way to downtown Québec City to find their next clue. After choosing a bike rickshaw, one Racer had to navigate the rickshaw through the busy streets, while the other Racer was giving them directions over a walkie-talkie. The Racer on the bike rickshaw had to pick up three passengers and take them to specific locations, picking up coloured tickets along the way. Once they had collected all three of their tickets, they had to find their way back to their partner, to receive their next clue.
Racers were then directed to Carnaval Warehouse, where teams had to search for the Bonhomme Carnaval, Québec's proud symbol of winter. In the massive warehouse, Racers had to search through hundreds of Bonhommes, big and small, with only three Bonhommes holding their next clue, a box of chocolate. Teams then travelled to Erico's Chocolate Shop to switch their box of chocolate for their next clue.
Racers then made their way to Observatoire de la Capital, Québec City's tallest building with 360 degree views of the entire upper and lower towns, two mountain ranges, and the St. Lawrence River. One Racer had to complete a vertical walk up the side of the building, and then search the city below to locate a flag. Once spotted, teams raced to the flag to find their next challenge. Kenneth spotted the wrong flag, and had to complete the vertical climb twice, pushing them to the back of the pack.
Once teams raced to the proper flag they found themselves at the Morrin Centre, built in 1712, and named for Québec City's first Mayor, Dr. Joseph Morrin. In the final 150 Challenge of the season, teams had to complete a large puzzle of Canada, and properly label all of the 150 Challenge's they completed throughout the Race. Once their puzzle was completed, and they had correctly identified all of their 150 Challenges, they received their final clue. While Kenneth and Ryan were the last to arrive, they were the first team to complete the puzzle but struggled with labeling the correct 150 Challenges. Sam and Paul were the first team to correctly identify and label the 150 Challenges, and received their last clue, directing them to the final Pit Stop Le Parc-des-Ancêtres. The dating couple raced to the mat to find host Jon Montgomery and were the first team to arrive, winning Season 5 of THE AMAZING RACE CANADA.
